The Nassau Wildcats had 16 wrestlers enter the toughest tournament of the season last Sunday, as the Nassau County Youth Wrestling Championships were held at Clarke High School in Westbury.

All the kids gained valuable experience and wrestled their hearts out.

This week's Outstanding Wrestler awards go to:

1) NICK LOIACONO - was crowned Nassau County Champion for the Novice division (5th & 6th grade) in the 130 lb. weight class. Nick, in his 1st full year of wrestling, has now compiled a 10-4 record. He has won 6 straight matches and won the last 3 tournaments he has entered. Nice work, Nick, keep working hard!

2) BILLY McLEAN - gets a mention as Outstanding Wrestler for his great performance in a wrestle-back match. Bill lost a tough one in the opening round, but bounced back to claim 3rd Place in his Novice (5th & 6th grade) division. Billy, also a 1st year wrestler, dominated his opponent in the wrestle-back, using nifty takedowns, tight waist & ankle breakdowns, and Half & Wrist combo's to keep his opponent tied up for the entire match. Bill worked whistle-to-whistle and did not stop. Excellent work, Billy!

All the kids who entered showed true grit just for competing at that level.
