NASSAU WILDCATS USE EXPERIENCE TO MAKE NOISE AROUND THE STATE

NEW YORK STATE TOURNAMENT - WILDCAT HISTORY IS MADE!
The Loiacono brothers, Michael & Nicholas, along with their parents, made the trip this weekend to Port Jervis, New York to participate in the NYS Youth Wrestling Championships, as our 1st ever Nassau Wildcat representatives. The Loiacono's toughness for making the commitment surely paid off as both Mike & Nick returned home as NEW YORK STATE PLACEWINNERS, the 1st two in Nassau Wildcat 2-year team history!
"Iron" Mikey, a 1st year, 2nd grader, used his quickness to get a 5th place finish in the State. Older brother, Nick (1st year, 6th grader), who won the Nassau County Championship for the Wildcats last month, lost only one match, and wrestled back to finish an AMAZING 3rd Place in NEW YORK STATE! Mr. Loiacono reports that Nick was coached for several matches by the legendary Paul Guillespie, the head coach of Garden City's travel team. However, for Nick's last match....he had to do it on his own vs. an opponent from Nassau County to whom he had lost earlier this season. In a high paced, back and forth match, Nick came from behind in the 3rd period to take his man down and put him to his back to earn the spectacular win for 3rd place! Nick and Mike - we're proud of you guys for going up there (#1), #2 wrestling your hearts out, and #3...showing US that we're ready to compete at that level. Way to break down the door, Loiacono family.

BRENTWOOD TOURNAMENT (Saturday)
Although, one would think from a statistical point of view, that our results from Brentwood (2-6, .250) were disappointing...the kids who attended learned alot and had good learning experiences sure to pay off soon. We had 4 kids enter. Ryan Keenan showed much improvement, driving through and finishing off double legs much better, and hitting nice stand-ups. These matches will pay huge dividends for Ryan next year on Junior High. Nick Matteo ran into a steamroller from North Babylon (who ultimately won the tournament) in his 1st match, and learned from a couple of mistakes for the next day. Sean Richards took 3rd place, hanging tough with a Suffolk County placewinner in his loss. Lewis Grama bearly missed out on a Championship. See "Players of the Week" for the full story on Lew.

WALT WHITMAN TOURNAMEMT (Sunday)
Our Nassau Wildcat kids posted an amazing 17-5 record, as ALL EIGHT wrestlers posted winning marks. Three Champions, three 2nd place finishers, and two 3rd place finishers. As did Vinnie Ali and Anthony Cerrone (see "Players of the Week" for their stories), Ben Freund emerged with a Championship. Ben pumped his record up to 8-2, and has won ALL THREE Invitational Tournaments he has entered. His only losses have come at the Nassau County tournament.
Christian Marini (12-11), Nick D'Angelo (10-5) and Mike Marini (13-4) all took 2nd place and looked really tough. Mike Marini had the comeback of the day. Down 2-0 entering the 3rd period, Mike chose top position, cradled his man up and pinned him to advance into the finals.
Sean Richards (14-11) earned a pin in his 1st match, before hanging close in defeat to the eventual champion in his next, to claim 3rd place. Nick Matteo (7-6) used Saturday's experience to come back and win two matches, as he also took home 3rd place.

Parents and Coaches could not have been more proud of your wrestling this weekend.
Now...just think about how good you could be if you guys actually PAID ATTENTION IN PRACTICE!!!
