Nick Reda (5th grade), a 1st year Wildcat grappler entered only the 2nd tournament of his career and left as Massapequa tournament Champion in the Novice (5th & 6th grade) 75 lb. division. Reda was relentless in his matches, and it was a pleasure for the coaches to see Nick use the moves he's learned in just a few practices. Nick really focuses in practice and that intensity showed in his matches. He was constant motion, hopping to both sides and throwing in Half Nelson after Half Nelson (with a Cradle and the Whip added in for good measure). Nick's record on the year is now 3-1.

Dillon Hanel (6th grade) returned to form at the Massapequa tournament, also winning the Championship in the 95 lb. Novice division. Dillon is a 3rd year veteran who, in his first match of the day, took on a Garden City grappler who trains all year round. Dillon shut him down and produced an exciting 4-1 victory. In the Championship match, Dillon defeated Wildcat grappler, Samuel Mohebban, who also wrestled extremely well. Hanel (3-3) won several tournaments last year for the Wildcats, so it was good to see him back on top.

Liam Fraser (5th grade) hadn't wrestled in a tournament in 2 years!!! He wrestled his first and only tourney at Locust Valley in January 2008, as one of the Wildcats' "Original 20." He's been practicing ever since. Well, it paid off big at Massapequa, as Liam was crowned Novice division 125 lb. Champion. In his first match, Liam dominated for a 7-3 victory. In the finals, Liam had to work extra hard, as the match went into overtime. No problem for Liam. All that Wildcat conditioning paid off, and Liam (2-0) came through with the Championship, edging his opponent in sudden death.

Great job, Nick, Dillon and Liam!!!
