After taking a 2nd and two 3rd places in his previous three tournaments, "Iron" Mikey Loiacono (3rd grade) finally reached the Champion's platform this Sunday at the Freeport Youth tournament. Mike went undefeated en route to his first Championship of the season. The 2nd year Wildcat grappler improved his record to 6-3 on the year. The key to Mike's success is his style of wrestling. He never stops moving and his opponents cannot keep up with him. Each match was a battle, but Mike never gave up. Everyone was proud of his effort and what he accomplished.

2nd year wrestler, Christian Marini, also took home the gold at Freeport. Christian (a 4th grader) posted an undefeated mark and was relentless on the mat. He improved his record to 2-2 on the year, after dropping two tough matches at Locust Valley the previous week. That experience gave Christian the edge he needed to become Champion this week. Once Christian gets more practices under his belt, he will become truly dangerous out there!!!!

Our 3rd Wrestler of the Week is none other than Mark Perrone. Everyone at Wildcat Wrestling knows Mark as "The Technician." That's because Mark works hard in practice and has mastered many of the moves he's learned. The Technician had the toughest match of the day. Somehow, he was matched up against a wrestler from Garden City who, as we found out later, had 5 years' experience. Mark hung tough for the whole match and refused to get pinned. Technician also hit a Textbook Peterson in his second match. Mark was tough as nails, and the whole team was proud of his courageous efforts.
