RICHARDS & McCLEARY are ALL-STATE

NYS YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS……..
Four of our fearless Wildcat grapplers made the trip to Endicott, NY this past weekend to take on NY’s best. Here’s hope they fared.
2nd grader, Matthew McCleary, made his first appearance at the State Championships and produced a 5th place finish. Matthew, fresh off his 3rd place finish at the Nassau County Championships, wrestled two extremely good matches at the States, and comes home an All-State wrestler. Great job, Matt!!!
The always-tough Mosca brothers, Max and Shawn, made their 2nd trip to the States to enter the 5th & 6th grade division. Our 5th grade Wildcats wrestled ferociously. Although they didn’t make it to the podium this year, Shawn and Max made us proud and got great experience for next year, when they’ll return as 6th graders to make some noise. The coaches also expect the boys to contend for the Nassau County crown next season as well.
8th grader, Sean Richards, overcame a multitude of maladies this weekend to take home 4th place in NYS in the highly competitive Junior High division. Richards, this year’s Nassau County champ, became the 3rd Wildcat wrestler in the program’s 5-year history, to earn All-State honors.
Sean tweaked a back muscle on Friday while training with the Wheatley Junior High team. Richards also had to contend with the fact that he arrived in Endicott on Saturday, two lbs. over the 136 lb. limit. After making the weight, Sean took ill with a stomach virus the night before the event, requiring copious amounts of Pepto-Bismol and Pedialite to bring him back to health.
These afflictions proved no match for a determined Richards who, despite walking like an elderly gentleman due to his ailing back, rose to the occasion, winning 3 matches and making it to the State semifinals. Sean came up short in this match, losing to the eventual NYS Champ, and re-aggravating his back in the process.   Sean persevered in his wrestle-back earning a hard fought 6-5 decision, which placed him in the Consolation Finals for 3rd place. Unfortunately, Sean’s back prevented him from continuing. The injury default landed Sean his 4th Place NYS finish. Congratulations!
